Demand for Passenger Vehicles
At the end of fiscal year 2020, around 3.4 million passenger vehicles were produced across India. The automobile industry within the country witnessed a slowdown due to an economic slump. Rising congestion and the push from the government to switch to electric vehicles could also be a reason for the decline in growth. However, between fiscal years 2007 and 2017, the compound annual growth rate of registered motor vehicles stood at 10.1 percent, which was almost twice the CAGR of national highways for the same time period.
Recovery of Auto Sector
The Indian auto industry seems to have made a strong recovery with the lockdown being lifted in a phased manner. Around 1,97,610 passenger cars were sold in the Indian market for July 2020. It was a mere -1% decline over the same period last year (July 2019).

Globally, India is leading in terms of the millennial population account for 47% share in the working age population. Millennials account for a significant share in usage of taxi services however post covid they are expected to shift their preference of a mode of transportation.
