Automated Tractor Tech: The future of India's Farming Innovation
It’s interesting to see how Automation in Agri business is spreading its wings and attracting renowned companies to invest in the sector. Today international firms find India as the largest consumer of agricultural machinery and I also personally believe country is a potential hub for implementing technologically advance processes. New innovative self-driving autonomous tractors mark the biggest change within the agricultural sector.
Almost all the agriculture and farming practices require advanced machines and precision based agro solutions to yield more produce. “Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd” (M&M) and “Escorts” are the leading manufacturers of autonomous tractors in India. GPS-based technology, US-based Bear Flag Robotics, self-driving technology, light detection and ranging technology, cameras and advanced software are few sophisticated tools and technologies used in the manufacture of autonomous tractors in India.
“Escorts”, the leading autonomous tractor manufacturing brand, has collaborated with AVL, Trimble, Samwardhana Matherson Group, Bosch, Microsoft and Reliance Jio to manufacture more urbane autonomous tractors. Electric transmission technology, sensors, water level management system, autonomous e-steering, smart interface, advanced vehicle controls, automation technology, cloud and AI technology has enabled precision agriculture capabilities within the self-driving autonomous tractors.
It’s great to see inventions happening around where in one of the recent inventions was country’s first independent home-based driverless tractor which can drive on its own in a specified path using GPS-based technology introduced by Escorts. I must say a stiff competition resulting in new innovations such as Mahindra & Mahindra’s launched driverless tractor which uses GPS coordinates that can recognise the farm boundaries while it is controlled remotely via a tablet.
Whereas the other side of the story is that the Agriculture sector in India continues to face automation challenges; however according to the study done by Makreo Research and Consulting with the help of industry experts, with the advent of driverless tractors or automated tractor technology, the agricultural produce will increase drastically. We firmly believe that inducing automated tractor technology in India unlocks the power of next-generation digital vehicle technologies that aim at precision-based farming. Precision farming practices helps the farmers to scale the size of their farm and optimize their yield and maximise income.
India continuously depends on high-efficiency farming technology operations and autonomous vehicles which have become the concrete reality and has paved the path for the future. Agriculture sector is exploring multiple efficiencies that automation can provide and is focussing on a vision of more possibilities.
Even though India is moving towards technology but still a significant percentage of farmers are yet to explore the automation due to lack of awareness and limited income base. It is vital for the market players to understand right target segment for their Self-driving autonomous tractors which is still in the nascent stage and becomes inevitable to figure out strategies to eliminate farmer’s challenges to expand their market reach.
